Academic
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have been a fixed-term teacher at the University of Essex since 2016-17, teaching Writing for Theatre, Writing for Radio and, since 2023-24, Eco-Theatre, a new full-year undergraduate module which I academically designed.Â
In 2023 I gained a PhD in Theatre Studies, my doctoral thesis re-evaluating the role of naturalism in contemporary eco-theatre.
Seminars and Conference Papers
I delivered a paper in January 2024 titled âWild Dramaturgy: ecotone as a site of tension in Steve Watersâ On the Beachâ at the âWilding Performanceâ Intersections Conference at the Royal School of Speech and Drama in London.
In July 2022, I chaired the panel discussion âDramatizing Species Lossâ, at the University of East Angliaâs symposium Song of the Reeds: Re-Wilding Drama, with panellists Tim Strudwick (Mid Yare Reserves Site Manager for RSPB) and playwright and eco-activist Sarah Woods.

In February 2024, my book review âTowards an Ecocritical Theatre: Playing the Anthropocene by Mohebat Ahmadiâ was published in the journal âGreen Letters: studies in ecocriticismâ.
In December 2022, my article âTheatre, Ecology and the Secret Life of Naturalismâ was published in the special âTheatre and Ecologyâ edition of the peer-reviewed, open access journal Critical Stages.
My article âEcological apocalypticism in Ella Hicksonâs Oil, Lucy Kirkwoodâs The Children and Duncan Macmillanâs Lungsâ was published in July 2021 in the journal Brief Encounters.
My review of the book Bleak Joys: aesthetics of ecology and impossibility by Matthew Fuller and Olga Goriunova was published in March 2021 in the journal Green Letters: Studies in Ecocriticism.
